Painting CIP
Friday, May 25, 2007
Hello 1AA2. These are the details regarding our class CIP next week. Please do take note.
VERY important.Acres Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC)INTRODUCTION TO THE ACRES WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTRE
“The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men.” - Alice Walker
Project Objectives
The Acres Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC) will be the first wildlife rescue centre in Singapore and will help save and improve the lives of vast numbers of animals.
The 2 hectare AWRC will be located in Sungei Tengah Agrotech Park. With your support, the AWRC will:
Help end the cruel illegal wildlife trade through serving as an educational facility.
The AWRC will create awareness on the illegal wildlife trade and other animal protection issues. Provide a safe haven for animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade.
Serve as a platform to promote volunteerism in Singapore and globally.
Complement and assist the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority’s enforcement efforts to tackle the illegal wildlife trade.
Acres has obtained the piece of land for the AWRC from the Singapore Land Authority and construction began in January 2007. The AWRC is scheduled to begin operations by the end of June 2007.
Dates and Time: 29 - 31 May, Tuesday to Thursday. 9am - 3pm.
How to get there: Just to note, we will be meeting as a class at 8am at Choa Chu Kang MRT control station every morning. (so yeah, you have to tap you ezlink card to get out first) Please DO NOT be late! If there is anyone who wishes to make his/her own way to Qian Hu Fish Farm, please do let me know in advance (by SMS).
We'll be meeting the coordinator/s at the entrance of Qian Hu Fish Farm (71, Jalan Lekar, Sungei Tengah S698950)
1. Take bus 172 from CCK interchange
2. Alight in front of Home Team Academy (Old Choa Chu Kang Road)
3. Walk about 1km to Qian Hu Fish Farm (follow sign and turn into Jalan Lekar)
What to Bring: (yes, we do have to buy our own painting materials)
Per Person =
- paint roller
- cloth (to clean the wall before painting)
- newspaper (to lay on the floor to avoid dripping paint on it)
- masking tape (to cover the windows and switches to prevent painting on them)
- insect repellent
- drinking water
- lunch
Every 2 people = (you do not have to form pairs, just bring whatever you have)
- paint tray
- paint brush
- pole (to fit the paint roller in to reach higher parts of the wall which is 3m in height)
Therefore, we are appealing to the class:-
Whoever has
paint rollers,
masking tape,
paint trays,
paint brushes and
poles, please do volunteer your items so that we can cut costs. If you can bring extra, please do! Don't worry, you'll get your stuff back. For those who are able to bring any of these items for the CIP,
please message me ASAP! Prefarably by tmr (Sat) night. (Please do not tag on the tagboard as I will not be checking the class blog and please do not call me on my hp too because I will be having choir practice. Thks.)
For those who do not own these items mentioned in the previous paragraph, we will be purchasing them for you and will bring them to the wildlife centre on 29 May. However, you do need to pay for the materials
OR the cost will be split among everyone (have not decided yet).
I hope that it is understood that we will each bring cloth, newspapers and personal effects. These will not be provided as a class.
Dress Code:
- 29 and 31 May = Anything
- 30 May = Collegeiate - the tee with the big letters ACJC on it (however u spell it :P)
The press will be going down on that day so wearing the AC shirt will allow us to be easily recognised. If for any reason you aren't able to wear your collegiate, please turn up in a college-based tee. And apparently, we're not the only volunteers. There are other groups as well.
Please be reminded that for all days, covered shoes are required. So please do not turn up in slippers.
